Henry Martín excluded from Mexico national team call-up for Concacaf Nations League, Digi Mart USA News: According to reports, Rafael Márquez did not consider Henry Martín for the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal matches. Martín is considered one of the best Mexican strikers since the 2026 World Cup.
Ahead of Rafael Márquez announcing his second squad as head coach of the Mexican national team, information has emerged regarding Henry Martín, captain and historic top scorer of América. Weeks earlier, reports had suggested that “La Bomba” would return to the national team, but Claro Sports reported on Wednesday that this will not happen.
Martín will not be considered for the two matches against Jamaica next week, which are the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Nations League. Reporter León Lecanda of ESPN also said Henry will not be in this call-up, along with Luis Ángel Malagón, who is recovering from the injury that kept him out of the World Cup.
Since the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, Martín has been among the best Mexican attackers in any league, accumulating 10 goals with América in the current Apertura 2026 Liga MX tournament. This is his best goal-scoring record since the Clausura 2023 season, when he also won the Golden Boot with 14 goals.
His current numbers place him level with Julián Quiñones, his former teammate. Quiñones, of Al Qadsiah, also has 10 goals across the Saudi Pro League and the Asian Champions League.
No domestic players come close to them in this category.
This international window is officially a FIFA International Date, so Quiñones could be called up by Rafa, as could other players abroad such as Santiago Giménez or Armando “Hormiga” González.
There is also a reported “surprise” call-up possibility for Armando León, a striker with NK Osijek who has six goals in the Croatian league.
Martín’s last appearance with the Mexican national team came in the quarterfinals of the Nations League in November 2024. He did not make the squad for the first leg, which Mexico lost 2-0, but in the second leg at the Nemesio Diez stadium he scored a brace in a 4-0 win.
In 46 matches with the Mexican national team, Martín has scored 11 goals (one at a World Cup) and recorded eight assists. He also won bronze with the Olympic team at Tokyo 2020, where he scored three goals in six matches.
