TotalEnergies Megawatt Charging System electric trucks France, Digi Mart USA News (Moselle, France): The electrification of truck transport is taking small steps in France, and a new station inaugurated by TotalEnergies in Moselle illustrates the trend. While electric cars have become the most purchased vehicles each month, France has seen far less movement toward electric trucks, although China has begun to adopt them widely.
TotalEnergies, led by Patrick Pouyanné, is developing charging stations for electric trucks based on the Megawatt Charging System (MCS), a standard designed for heavy electric vehicles that delivers very high power. The company is advancing this effort with the inauguration of its first MCS system in Moselle.
The site consists of a lane integrating an MCS connector and a cabinet, and it complements the A24 charging station located in Phalsbourg. According to TotalEnergies, the system can cut truck charging times in half compared with current offerings.
Charging a battery of this type from 20 to 80 percent would take less than 30 minutes, a duration that roughly matches the breaks taken by drivers.
Over the longer term, TotalEnergies aims to install MCS stations along European motorway networks, particularly along the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), to support long-distance electric freight. The group is also studying their integration into major logistics hubs.
