Rain has fallen across the Gard since Wednesday. A new Mediterranean episode is expected to intensify on Thursday, according to Météo-France, which moved the department to orange rain-flood vigilance at 6 a.m.
According to the weather institute, rainfall totals recorded overnight from Wednesday to Thursday reached 50 to 70 millimeters along an axis from Montpellier and Le Vigan to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Alès.
On Thursday, rainfall will be more pronounced along the coastal area, with additional totals of about 70 to 100 millimeters expected by Thursday evening in the same sectors. Météo-France noted that the rain is falling on very wet soils, which will facilitate runoff, and forecast an improvement overnight from Thursday to Friday.
Elsewhere, the Gard remains under yellow vigilance for thunderstorms and flood risks.
ICI is also running a consultation ahead of the 2027 presidential election, proposing a monthly thematic questionnaire to gather citizens’ expectations for the future president of the Republic.
Earlier, Hérault and Gard were placed under orange vigilance for storms, rain-flooding and floods from 2 p.m. on Monday, while Lozère switched to orange at 4 p.m.
The Gard prefecture said in a statement Tuesday evening that school transport would be suspended for Wednesday due to weather conditions.
