Mexico-Portugal parliamentary cooperation and trade agenda, Digi Mart USA News (Lisbon, Portugal): Mexican lawmaker Pedro Haces Barba of the Morena party proposed strengthening the parliamentary relationship between Mexico and Portugal through a cooperation agenda aimed at expanding bilateral trade, attracting investment, opening new markets and generating employment opportunities for both nations.
During a meeting with representatives of Portugal’s Assembly of the Republic in Lisbon, the legislator emphasized the importance of using the diplomatic and institutional ties between the two countries to promote economic development and strengthen collaboration between Mexican and Portuguese business owners and workers. “I am convinced that parliamentary diplomacy must at all times become the engine of economic development,” he said.
Discussing trade opportunities, Haces Barba highlighted the strategic position of Mexico and Portugal as connection points to two of the world’s major international markets. “Mexico represents a strategic gateway to North America, while Portugal is the gateway to Europe,” he said.
He argued that the geographic location and productive capacities of both countries offer an opportunity to expand trade and strengthen ties between their economic sectors.
“We have a tremendous opportunity to increase bilateral trade, promote investment, open new markets and strengthen collaboration between the business owners and workers of both countries,” he stated.
The lawmaker said the relationship between the legislative branches should go beyond protocol meetings and be translated into permanent collaboration mechanisms with concrete economic and productive objectives. He called for keeping communication channels open between both parliaments and establishing a shared agenda to identify cooperation opportunities that benefit Mexican and Portuguese society.
“Today we come to build bridges, to strengthen the relationship between our parliaments and to build a common agenda that translates into greater opportunities,” he said. He also noted that the exchange of experiences and dialogue between lawmakers can help build trust, bring productive sectors closer together and promote initiatives of mutual benefit.
