Mexico tourism economy growth second quarter 2026, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico City): The economy related to tourism in Mexico grew 0.6% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, driven by increased production of tourism goods, although services recorded a decline, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) reported on Wednesday.

The growth in the indicator, which Inegi calls tourism gross domestic product (GDP), resulted from a 6.7% year-on-year increase in goods, offset by a 0.9% decline in services, the autonomous institute said in its report based on original figures.

Tourism consumption also rose 0.3% year-on-year from April to June, driven by a 3% increase in domestic consumption, in contrast with a 13.7% decrease in spending by foreign visitors.

Separately, Inegi’s quarterly tourism activity indicators (ITAT) reported a quarter-on-quarter increase of 0.4% in the tourism economy between April and June compared with the first three months of the year, based on seasonally adjusted figures. This rise occurred thanks to a 3.3% quarterly gain in goods, despite a 0.2% decline in services.

Tourism consumption advanced 0.1% quarter-on-quarter, with a 0.3% rise among foreign tourists and no change among domestic tourists.

The data reflect the upward trend in tourism in Mexico, which received 47.8 million international tourists in 2025, 6.1% more than in 2024, consolidating sustained growth in the sector following the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Foreign visitor spending reached $34.992 billion in 2025, an annual increase of 6.2%, setting a new historical record for this revenue category.

According to the government and business leaders, citing data from the World Tourism Organization, Mexico is the sixth most visited country in the world. President Claudia Sheinbaum has set a goal for the country to rank among the top five.
