Talarico and Hinojosa Texas election victory celebration at Whataburger, Digi Mart USA News (Austin, Texas): After a night that changed the political map of Texas, Democrats James Talarico and Gina Hinojosa chose a distinctly Texan way to celebrate: a stop at Whataburger, the popular hamburger chain founded in the state. The two politicians visited a Whataburger location in Austin early Wednesday morning, where they met with supporters and raised their cups in a toast to the results of the November 3 election.
“First stop after the victory: Whataburger,” Talarico wrote in a post on X. Hinojosa also shared a video of the celebration with a brief message: “We did it.”
The scene contrasted with the scale of their electoral wins. Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton in the race for the U.S.
Senate and became the first Democrat to win an election to that chamber from Texas since 1988. Hinojosa defeated Republican Governor Greg Abbott and ended more than three decades of Republican governments in Texas.
Her victory makes her the first Latina woman to reach the governorship of the state.
Whataburger is a fast-food chain founded in 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas. It specializes in hamburgers but also offers french fries, sandwiches and other products.
With locations across much of the southern United States, the brand has become a reference point for Texas food culture. For that reason, the choice of venue did not go unnoticed.
Instead of a formal reception or political event, Talarico and Hinojosa shared the celebration with their supporters at a restaurant associated with everyday life in Texas. The Whataburger stop closed a historic election day for Democrats, who regained ground in the state and secured two of the most significant victories of the night.
