Mexican Navy identifies maritime drug trafficking routes off Michoacán coast, Digi Mart USA News (Michoacán, Mexico): The Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) has identified maritime routes allegedly used by a criminal organization to bring cocaine shipments from Central and South America through the coast of Michoacán. The corridor covers the strip between Faro de Bucerías and Huahua, in the municipality of Aquila, from where the narcotics were reportedly transported to other parts of the country.

The identification of these points was made public after the arrest of three alleged leaders of a criminal cell on October 29. According to the agency, the detainees are accused of controlling the maritime routes and coordinating operations to receive drug shipments that entered through the Mexican Pacific.

In a statement issued on November 2, the Navy said the captures were the result of naval intelligence work and interagency coordination aimed at weakening organizations engaged in maritime drug trafficking. The institution said these actions seek to affect not only the transport of shipments but also the logistical points and structures responsible for their distribution.

According to the information, the routes between Faro de Bucerías and Huahua were used to receive narcotics from Central and South America, which were then moved to different regions of Mexico. The agency stressed that identifying those who control these corridors makes it possible to act against the networks that facilitate the entry of drugs into national territory and their later distribution.

As part of its results in Mexican Pacific operations during the current administration, Semar reported the seizure of 97.5 tons of cocaine, an amount it estimates is equivalent to approximately 136 million doses. The institution calculated that these seizures represent an economic impact of 25 billion pesos for organized crime organizations.

The Navy said that combating international narcotics trafficking requires permanent surveillance, intelligence and coordination operations. It explained that this work makes it possible to identify and disrupt criminal networks that use maritime routes to transport drugs, as well as their reception and distribution mechanisms.

The agency stated that actions along the Michoacán coast are part of a strategy to weaken the structures operating in the Mexican Pacific and to protect national maritime spaces against drug trafficking.
