Gómez Palacio taxi motorcycle crash death, Digi Mart USA News (Gómez Palacio, Mexico): A fatal road accident in the municipality of Gómez Palacio left one minor dead and another young man seriously injured after a taxi struck the motorcycle they were riding in from behind late at night.
The deceased was identified as Israel Lozano, 17, of the ejido Dolores. According to a medical report, he died Monday afternoon at Clinic 46 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) from severe head and body injuries.
The crash occurred at about 9:00 p.m. Sunday at a railway crossing leading to the rural community of ejido Dolores.
The three young people had left on the motorcycle to buy dinner when a public service taxi hit them from the rear, throwing the occupants several meters onto the pavement.
One of the passengers, identified as Fernanda, told police she was traveling with her two cousins at the time of the collision. Another rider, Saúl Lozano Cabrera, 19, was seriously injured and taken by emergency to the local General Hospital for specialized care.
After Israel’s death was confirmed, the duty public prosecutor attended the scene at Clinic 46 to document the events. Forensic medicine personnel removed the body to the morgue for the legally required autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.
Authorities from the Laguna Regional Deputy Prosecutor’s Office said an investigation file is being opened to clarify how the incident happened and to locate the taxi driver involved, who reportedly was traveling at excessive speed at the time of the crash.
