Older state pensioners handed £739 DWP payments in November

DWP payments: DWP payments of up to £739.60 are set to reach older state pensioners across the UK in November following the implementation of the triple lock increase earlier this year, providing an annual boost for those with full National Insurance records.

DWP payments, USA News (United Kingdom): Older state pensioners across the UK are set to receive up to £739.60 from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in November following a triple lock change earlier this year. The State Pension rises at the start of each new tax year, with new rates determined by the triple lock guarantee.

This UK government guarantee ensures the State Pension increases every April by whichever metric is highest among the consumer price index (CPI) measure of inflation from September of the previous year, average wage growth between May and July of the previous year, or 2.5%. For the 2026 to 2027 tax year, both the basic and new State Pension increased in line with average wage growth at 4.8%.

The triple lock boost gives older pensioners on the basic State Pension approximately £439.40 extra per year, based on a full National Insurance record. The new rates came into effect on April 6, and pensioners continue to reap the benefits of these higher payments every four-week payment period.

Basic State Pension Rates and Payment Periods

For older state pensioners claiming the basic State Pension, weekly payments are worth a maximum of £184.90 per week in the 2026 to 2027 tax year. Because the State Pension is paid every four weeks, eligible individuals can get up to £739.60 from the DWP in each four-week payment period.

Over a full year, the 4.8% increase amounts to a maximum of £9,614.80 in basic State Pension payments, up from £9,175.40 previously. Claimants must meet specific qualifying years of National Insurance to receive the full amount, which varies depending on birth year and gender. Individuals with fewer qualifying years receive a reduced amount.

Official Confirmation and Schedule

Confirming the new rates, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Pat McFadden noted that the increase delivers on the government’s commitment to the Triple Lock. Pensioners can determine when the DWP will issue their November payment by checking the last two digits of their National Insurance number.
